About South Yarmouth LNG
A reliable LNG tank is critical for providing safe and consistent gas service to over 115,000 Cape Cod customers on peak days. The South Yarmouth LNG Plant is utilized as a peak shaver, providing pressure and volume supply during the winter months that can’t be done through current pipeline infrastructure.
The proposed tank replacement will replace the existing 50-year-old South Yarmouth LNG tank with a smaller, modern, in-kind storage tank at the Property. To ensure continued reliable service to customers during the construction process, National Grid plans to construct the new LNG storage tank on the Property, followed by the removal of the existing tank once the new facilities are operational. Impacts associated with the Project are limited to construction noise and tree clearing, with only very limited visibility of the new tank.
Construction of the new tank is scheduled to conclude in 2028, and decommission of the aging infrastructure to conclude in 2029 (schedule permitting)
